I have been a hobbyist photographer at heart ever since my teenage years, and even now I still do not fully understand apertures, bokeh, depth of field, f-stops, shutter speeds or the intricate focal lengths of photography and I am now 58 years old. But now, bit by bit I think it might now be starting to sink in!

I live in Lewes Sussex, which is within the South Downs National Park so most of my photography images will reflect that and I am constantly on the lookout for new scenes to photograph within the Lewes and Southdowns Area. I have lived in Lewes for 40 years and have been with a Lewes girl for 38 years. I have two children and they have between them given me five grandchildren in return!

My photographic vision is far beyond my old 110 Instamatic camera skills! I have had many cameras over the years including a Pentax Spotmatic and an Olympus OM-2. My kit now is a Nikon D3200 mainly using a prime Nikkor AF-S DX 20mm f/1.8G ED lens or a zoom Nikkor AF-S DX 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR lens and a LED Video light.

I call my Nikon camera kit “My Baby” Because it fits perfectly into my hands “Like A Hand In A Glove” and it is not to heavy. It will nearly always do what I ask it to do and it will deliver great photographs in most light conditions, bearing in mind that I nearly always shoot in program auto mode without the flash or a tripod.

In case you were wondering, “Sad Sack” is rhyming East End slang for “Bad Back” which is what I suffer from, My photographic locations are chosen to try and incorporate basic core muscle exercise with gentle clambering, climbing and walking which all helps me to keep more mobile.

I have put this photography website together to showcase my favourite photographs that I have taken over the years which have been taken mainly with my Nikon and within the Lewes and South Downs National Park area. Enjoy!

All photographs and videos within this website are mine unless otherwise stated. There are some video screenshots and videos that belong to other 3rd party shared video hosting website members.

  • Hi there, I’ve just stumbled across your site and wanted to see if I could ask you about some of the sites you have documented. Not sure if this is the best way to contact you? I do field recording, and so like to search for interesting sounds to record. Some of the places I’ve seen from your photos interest me, such as the clay and sand pits in Lewes. I just wondered whether you might have any aural knowledge of these areas, such as how quiet it is? Forgive the odd questions, but I’m just trying to get an idea of whether its worth a trip!

    Many thanks in advance

    • Jeez! . . I love your enquiry as it is so mind blowing. Many of the sites that I have visited in the past were chosen for the solitude and quietness with the only sounds that you could hear coming from nature.

  • Hello, I’m helping with the Lewes Regatta to design a window display at the tourist centre. I was wondering whether we could use one of your excellent photographs of the raft race in the display? I’d like to blow it up to a large size and it would go with flags, oars etc. As you know the regatta is a Lewes event to raise money for charity and get the community involved.

      • Many thanks Graham, much appreciated and hope to see you at this year’s event. I’m hoping to row in “Betty” as part of rowing race.

        • No Problem, I be there with my camera if the weather is kind and lets hope there is no repeat throwing of rookies. Which photo did you use in the end?
