Clay Pit : South Chailey
This Clay Pit in Chailey benefits from 300 years of brick-making history. Skills handed down from craftsman to craftsman enable them to create stock bricks of true character. Chailey still uses an original recipe, including a blend of local Wealden clays from its own quarry.
The bricks are fired in a traditional clamp to give the distinctive warm Chailey colours. To ensure quality and consistency of these colours and texture, all Chailey bricks are sorted and packed by hand. This is a working Clay Pit owned by Ibstock and is only worked during the Summer months.
